FCL (Full Container Load, 만재화물), LCL (Less Than Container, 소량컨테이너화물)

매월 말 선적 진행을 하는 고객의 지난달 선적 볼륨이 평소보다 많았다. 평소와 같으면 LCL로 진행을 하면 되었지만 이 경우 물품 도착 즉시 고객의 물품 인수가 이루어 지지 않으면 고객측에 Storage Fee가 과하게 부과될 수가 있다. 이를 방지하기 위해 LCL에서 FCL로 변경하여 진행할 수 있었는데, FCL, LCL이 어떤 의미인지 하기와 같이 정리 하였으며, 어떤차이가 있는지 알아 보았다.

 

 

 

 

FCL / LCL

   

FCL(Full Container Load)이란 'Full Container Load'의 약자로 만재 화물(Full Cargo)이라고 하며, 컨테이너 1개를 채우기에 충분한 양의 화물을 의미한다.

   

LCL (Less Than Container)는 'Less than Container Load'의 약자로 컨테이너 1개를 모두 채울 수 없는 소량화물을 말한다. 이러한 소량화물인 경우 CFS(컨테이너화물집하소)에서 컨테이너에 혼재(consolidation)작업을 한 후 운송을 위해 본선에 적재된다

정리하자면, FCL과 LCL로 나뉘는 기준은 활물의 규모이며, 1개의 컨테이너를 모두 채울수 있으면 FCL, 1개의 컨테이너를 채우기에 부족한 양이면 LCL로 진행하게 된다.

A full container load (FCL) is an ISO standard container that is loaded and unloaded under the risk and account of one shipper and only one consignee. In practice, it means that the whole container is intended for one consignee. FCL container shipment tends to have lower freight rates than an equivalent weight of cargo in bulk. FCL is intended to designate a container loaded to its allowable maximum weight or volume, but FCL in practice on ocean freight does not always mean a full payload or capacity.

Less-than-container load
Less-than-container load (LCL) is a shipment that is not large enough to fill a standard cargo container. The abbreviation LCL formerly applied to "less than (railway) car load" for quantities of material from different shippers or for delivery to different destinations carried in a single railway car for efficiency. LCL freight was often sorted and redistributed into different railway cars at intermediate railway terminals en route to the final destination.

 

  - LCL이라는 용어는 본래 한 철도 차량에 도착지가 각기 다른 여러 화주의 화물을 운송할 때 쓰였던 용어임. (해당 화물은 최종 도착 전 경유 터미널에서 다른 기차로 옮겨 실어지기도 함.)

   

LCL is "a quantity of cargo less than that required for the application of a carload rate. A quantity of cargo less than that fills the visible or rated capacity of an inter-modal container." It can also be defined as "a consignment of cargo which is inefficient to fill a shipping container. It is grouped with other consignments for the same destination in a container at a container freight station".

What is FCL?

If an exporter has goods to accommodate in one full container load, he books an FCL (Full Container Load) to stuff his cargo. In an FCL cargo, the complete goods in the said container owns by one shipper. In an FCL owned by one shipper, the cargo in the container need not have fully loaded cargo in the container. Let the cargo be half loaded or quarter loaded container, if booked by one shipper under one shipment, the said shipment is called FCL shipment.

 

  - FCL로 계약을 하여도 Container를 온전히 꽉 채울 필요는 없음. 한 컨테이너가 반 또는 1/4정도만 채워져 있어도 한 명의 Shipper에 의해 계약된 건이면 FCL이라고 함.

   

What is LCL?

Under an LCL cargo, where in a shipper does not have enough goods to accommodate in one full container, he books cargo with a consolidator to console his goods along with goods of other shippers. This type of shipment is called LCL shipment. The said consolidator arranges a fully loaded container (FCL), and consoles the shipments of other shippers and deliver each shipment to final destination by separating each shipment at final destination.
